General Discussion / Kimmie hooked me in (LOL)

Kimmie has me painting bottles for her to make stuff

Found that a Lazy Susan works best for painting bottles.  Just spin it a little and paint works great!
RG started working with is better half on hobbies and they make some really nice stuff.

Welcome to the forum first off.   Your right about having folks give ideas and helping along as you go it does make a huge difference

When I started my eating plan I was just south of 300 and I could not tolerate anymore being that heavy
So I started the low carb way and dropped 50 lbs but since this COVID-19 crap I have put some back on now about to get back on track and looking forward to it in a big way

Hope others will join in and let’s get going together!

New Member Introductions / Hello from Michigan!
« Last post by JDM on September 26, 2020, 01:56:32 AM »
Greetings from Northern Michigan! About 4 years ago I went on a very strict no carb, low fat, no dairy, diet. At the time I was eating a lot of veggies and lean meats. I did not follow any special diet per say, but I did consult with a dietician when I started making major adjustments to my diet. She basically affirmed that I was on the right path.

When I started my weight was pushing 300, my blood sugar was also around 300 and my A1C was north of 12. Along with the diet I joined a gym and started swimming and doing a lot of elliptical. I dropped about 85 lbs. My fasting blood sugar levels were consistently between 80-100 and the A1C came down to 4.6. I was initially on insulin and metformin for about six months. It has been a couple of years since I have been on any meds.

As often happens, bad habits start to creep back in. I am now back up to about 240 and my diet has been all over the place. Overall I am not eating badly, but I am not eating well. I am back to eating bread, grains, and more desserts etc. Even so, my fasting blood sugar levels have remained normal and I will probably have another full blood work-up sometime in the next few months.

I would really like to get back to some of the earlier dietary and lifestyle habits, but it is hard to get back in that groove. When covid hit and the gyms closed up I got out of my routine. To top things off I moved to a new area a couple of months ago, so even though gyms are starting to open up again, there don't seem to be any real close by. I did get an elliptical machine, but so far it has been a glorified coat rack!

I am glad TMB reached out to me on another forum and invited me to check this one out. I think it is easier to work on goals when you have a group of folks going through the same thing. I look forward to swapping recipes, finding some decent snack options, and learning from others going through similar situations. Didn’t mean for a simple introduction to go on so long, but thanks for letting me join!

I've been adding them to my chia seed pudding that I have every morning.  Healthy nutrition...to help offset my unhealthy nutrition!   ::)

Appetizers / My take on low carb Doritos

Made these last night.  I took lavish bread cut to the size I wanted then baked.  After they were crispy i spritz with PAM oil and dropped into a bowl of cheese powder with a little onion and garlic powder.  These were really good, a good sub for high carb corn chips!

Found the cheese powder at a spice shop    Ranch powder next!

That's something I learned the hard way.  Have to watch sauces and condiments.  Some are serving sizes of 1tsp, 2 tbs, or 1/4 cup.  sometimes i think the manufactures use the serving size to mislead since the calorie count per serving must now be shown in large numbers.
So True.      Guess I was hoping I was right and the count was great but my and tummy & eyes deceived me   :D :D
